Therefore, DEM’s focus is on the sustainable raw material extraction of high-quality critical and strategic metals and minerals, which will experience a steady increase in demand and a shortage in supply.

In general, you will be responsible for analyzing geological data and plan our geology-related projects. Besides, you should be able to evaluate the costs and benefits of mining natural resources in terms of their recovery value and availability based on the ESG principle. In this job, you’ll get to visit sites of interest to study the earth and work on extractions and mining. This means you’ll need excellent organizational and project management skills. You should be comfortable with data and geologic modelling, as well as technological tools. Teamwork and communication skills are also important since you will collaborate with engineers, geophysicists, or other scientists.

Key Responsibilities

  • As Economic Geologist, you have overall responsibility to initiate and conduct basic scientific research and resource assessment in economic geology, assessing critical mineral resources that can be used for economic or industrial purposes
  • Participate in and support other researchers in field work
  • Present project results at sponsor review meetings, regional and national conferences
  • Ensure environmental and other regulations are met in the projects
  • Highly organized self-starter with an eye for detail and able to maintain multiple on-going projects simultaneously
  • Flexible attitude with ability to work well in ambiguous, changing situations and able to reprioritize work accordingly

Work Experience Requirements

  • Several years of experience in geological sciences or related field with a focus in economic geology (>5 years)
  • Experience with various geological techniques like mining, boring and numerical modeling
  • Excellent data management skills (GIS, Leapfrog, etc.)
  • Proficient in MS office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Able to travel for and conduct field work, sometimes in remote and uncontrolled environments
  • Ability to execute office tasks and operate independently at times, specifically in field setting
  • Fluent in written and spoken German and English, and preferable Spanish

Education Requirements

•  Degree in geological sciences or related field with an emphasis in economic deposits of geological material
